Group Urges Nigeria to Support Palestine Independence

Worried by the incessant killings, bloodshed and destruction of property of Palestinians by Israel for over 73 years, an Islamic group known as Jama’atut Tajdidil Islamy has called on Nigerian government to support and champion the independence of Palestine.

This called was made during a public lecture organized by the group to condemn the recent war in Gaza and other Palestinian territory which consumed the lives of over 236 including children held at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kano.

The group has faulted Israel government and its supporters for deliberately and arrogantly defying and violating a number of United Nations resolutions designed to broker peace between the two states.

The event observed that in 2008 over 1,440. Palestinians were killed and over 47,000 families displaced.

In 2012, 167 killed and 126 family displaced, while in 2014 over 2,100 people were killed with 20,000 injured and over 500,000 displaced.

The current crisis beside loss of lives left hundred of buildings including schools, hospitals and media houses were destroyed in Gaza peninsula.

According to the group the Palestinian crisis is a humanitarian crisis’s that has a global consequence and must be addressed accordingly.

Jama’atut Tajdidil Islamy maintained that, the inhuman and nefarious Israel’s motives to extinct the Palestine nation from the earth is very clear with the continues massacre of innocent Palestinians including women and children.

The group recalled that since Nigeria’s independence in 1960, it has consistently maintained a progressive diplomatic tradition that makes her a reputable African champion of liberation of people in bondage from the shackles of oppression.

“They said the role of Nigeria in the emancipation of countries like Angola, Namibia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Southern Sudan, among others, are not yet lost on the track of African history.

In view of the Nigerian historical support of the liberation of countries, they called on Nigeria as a matter to move a motion at the United Nation for approval and granting the Palestine Independent.

Other Islamic groups that sent representatives to the one-day public lecture included Jamatul Izalatul Bidi Waikamtus sunna, Darikatul. Tijjaniyya, Darikatul Kadiriyya, also many professors and other academicians from universities and higher institutions attended the lecture.

Leaders of the group that spoke at the event include Sheikh Abubakar Mujahid Muhammad, National Leader of JTI and his deputy Sheikh Aminu Aliyu Gusau.

Other scholars and intellectuals who made speeches include Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, Chairman Council of Ulama, Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam Chairman Council of Imams, Dr Said Ahmad Dukuwa, Prof Muhammad Babangida, Sheikh Jamilu Alqadiriy, Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar of Izala movement and Chairman of the occasion, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, Chairman Kano State Hisbah Board.
