The Kano State Unity Forum has called on Kano State Pharmaceutical Traders at Abubakar Rimi Market in Sabon Gari to comply with the court and government directives and relocate to the new market within the new Kano Economic City at Dangwauro, Zaria Road.

This was made known on Saturday during a joint press conference organized by the Kano State Unity Forum in collaboration with the Kano Concerned Citizens Initiative (KCCT), Kano Leadership Enlightenment and Advocacy Development Initiative (KLEADS), Kano’s Shadow, and Kano Peace and Development Initiative (KAPEDI)

Others include Inuwar Jama’ar Kano, the Northern Reform Organization (NRO), the Kano Youth Promotion Council, and the League for Societal Protection Against Drug Abuse (LESPADA).

Ambassador Gidado Mukthar, leader of the delegation, highlighted that in recent years, various calculated attempts have been made to destroy Kano through the importation of dangerous and illicit drugs.

He asserted that many of these drug dealers operate openly in the Muhammad Abubakar Rimi Market, Sabon Gari, which is a clear violation of the relevant Federal and State Laws.

“Kano state government is disturbed by this sordid state of affairs which is why it initiated the new Kano Economic City at Dangwauro through Public Private Partnership (PPP) to establish a modern pharmaceutical market.

“This will allow for proper regulation, control, and monitoring of unlawful and other criminal activities and the new market meets all the global best practices standards,” he added.

Amb. Gidado stressed that no responsible government will allow illicit drugs to be sold openly and permeate society.

“Despite all the modern facilities provided in the new Dangwauro market, those involved in the illicit trade have deployed all means at their disposal to resist and frustrate the directives to move to the new market.”

Kano Unity Forum Delaration

  1.  As elders and patriotic citizens of our beloved state, we would like to make it clear that this unfortunate development will no longer be tolerated.
  • We are calling on all the Pharmaceutical Traders at the Muhammad Abubakar Rimi market to comply with the government directives, as affirmed recently by the court, to immediately relocate to the new Pharmaceutical market at the Kano Economic City. The menace of illicit drugs will no longer be tolerated in Kano as it is destroying the future of our youths and society in general.
  • We wish to reassure all and sundry that Kano, as a cosmopolitan city, will remain hospitable and welcoming. However, we will not allow anyone to perpetrate any activity inimical to the well-being of our people.
  • We take this opportunity to call on the Government and other law enforcement agencies not to relent in their efforts to ensure that the Pharmaceutical Traders, ASAP, relocate to the new Dangwauro Market as directed.
