Governor Yusuf Settles N32bn Outstanding Gratuity, Death Benefits

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has settled N32 billion out of the N48 billion in inherited outstanding gratuities and death benefits owed to pensioners and the families of deceased civil servants.

A statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, quoted Governor Yusuf saying, “Today, Wednesday, 8th of April 2026, we are settling an additional sum of N5 billion under the sixth tranche. This brings the cumulative total to N32 billion for the settlement of the backlog of gratuities and death benefits.

“I am happy to state that the state government has since settled the sum of N27 billion in five tranches out of the inherited liabilities as of December 2025,” the he governor added.

Governor Yusuf reassured civil servants that the long-standing issue of gratuities and death benefits will be permanently resolved before the end of his first tenure.

The Governor expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for their understanding and cooperation.

He thanked them for supporting the State Government’s drive to provide lasting relief to pensioners and the families of deceased civil servants in the state.

While congratulating the beneficiaries, the Governor urged them to make judicious use of the funds paid to them.

In their separate remarks, the Head of the Kano State Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, and the Executive Chairman of the Kano Pension Fund Trustees, Habu Muhammad Fagge, commended the Governor for his commitment to clearing the extensive backlog of payments within the first three years of his administration.
