Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to justice, infrastructural development, and good governance at the Annual Dinner and Awards Night organized by CREED, held at Tropical Galeria, Kano.
Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Governor’s spokesperson, in a statement on Saturday, said that the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of Kano State, Barr. Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, who represented Governor Yusuf, commended the organizers for fostering meaningful dialogue on the intersection of law, leadership, and societal progress.
In his address, the Governor highlighted the ongoing justice sector reforms, including the review of prolonged detentions across custodial centres.
He stated that the exercise uncovered disturbing cases of inmates held for years without trial, case files, or legal representation.
He explained that swift interventions were made to retrieve missing files, provide legal advice, and secure the release of individuals where justice demanded.
Governor Yusuf also outlined the significant strides made in infrastructural development across Kano State, ranging from road rehabilitation and improved water supply to upgrades in schools, healthcare facilities, and major urban renewal projects aimed at building a cleaner, safer, and better-organized metropolis.
The Governor’s representative attended the event alongside key government officials, including Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, Commissioner for Water Resources; Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, Commissioner for Housing Development; Engr. Marwan Ahmad, Commissioner for Works; Dr. Kabiru Sani Yakubu, Managing Director of KASCO; Arc. Hauwa Tudunwada, Managing Director of KNUPDA, and Engr. Abba Kankarofi, Deputy Managing Director of KARMA. His Highness, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, was also present.
Governor Yusuf applauded members of the legal profession for their steadfast dedication to justice and the rule of law, and congratulated award recipients for their exceptional contributions to societal advancement.
He was honoured with the CREED Magazine Governor of the Year 2025 Award for Infrastructure and Good Governance in recognition of his commitment to urban renewal and his efforts to position Kano as a mega city of global standards.
The award was presented on behalf of the organizers by the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. S.T. Hons, SAN.
