Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to promoting ethical standards and professional excellence in public information management, as he declared open a two-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Zonal Information Officers across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, made this known at the opening ceremony held in Kano.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Sani Abba Yola, Director of Special Duties at the Ministry, the workshop, themed “Safeguarding Ethical and Professional Standards in Public Information Management: The Role of Information Officers,” brought together key communication personnel in the state’s public service.

Governor Yusuf described investment in human capital development as vital to effective governance, noting that continuous training enhances skills, boosts morale, and improves productivity, particularly in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

He stressed that his administration would continue to prioritize training and retraining programs at local, national, and international levels to equip public servants with the knowledge and skills required for efficient service delivery.

The Governor highlighted the critical role of Information Officers in promoting transparency, bridging the gap between government and citizens, and ensuring the dissemination of accurate, timely information, especially amid rising fake news and disinformation.

According to the governor, Information Officers also serve as key channels for feedback on public perception, community challenges, and policy impact.

He urged them to remain proactive in reporting grassroots developments to support responsive governance and sustainable development.

He further called on public officials at all levels to cooperate with Information Officers to enhance public access to government policies, programs, and activities, thereby strengthening democratic processes.

The Governor assured participants of the government’s commitment to providing modern working tools and a conducive environment to enable them to perform effectively.

He also commended the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for organizing the workshop.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the workshop as a reflection of the ministry’s dedication to excellence in information dissemination and professional development.

Comrade Waiya expressed appreciation to the governor for his consistent support for capacity-building initiatives, noting that ongoing training programs under the current administration have significantly improved the performance of Information Officers.

He emphasized the relevance of the workshop’s theme, stating that it would deepen participants’ understanding of ethical standards, transparency, and digital communication strategies essential for effective information management in modern society.

The Commissioner urged participants to uphold professionalism, actively engage with the public, and help build trust and confidence in government activities, while assuring them that the ministry would continue to strengthen partnerships with media organizations and stakeholders to enhance communication and capacity development.
