Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has received 10 prestigious awards of excellence in recognition of his outstanding leadership and notable contributions to education, healthcare, and tourism.
The honours were presented to the governor during the 31st Executive Council Meeting held on Wednesday at the Government House, Annex, Kwankwasiyya City.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor was commended for initiatives that have significantly impacted governance and improved social services across the state.
One of the awards, presented on behalf of women political appointees by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, highlighted Governor Yusuf’s commitment to gender inclusion.
He was praised for appointing over 100 women to key roles in his administration, including special advisers, assistants, and reporters.
The deputy governor also presented two separate awards: one from the Conference of Provosts for Colleges of Islamic Studies of Nigeria and another from the Management of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies.
These awards recognised the governor’s commitment to education, particularly his substantial support for the college and his declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector.
The Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani also presented the Forum of Special Advisers award to Governor Yusuf for his “inspiring and result-oriented leadership,” which has had a lasting impact on the lives of Kano residents.
On her part, the state Commissioner of Culture And Tourism, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji Rano presented some souvenirs from a traditional organization in honor of the governor for his efforts in reviving traditional institutions and supporting traditional craft professionals with startup capital.
Also, the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Health, presented two awards: one from the West African College of Physicians and another from the Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria.
These awards were given in recognition of Governor Yusuf’s visionary leadership in the state’s healthcare sector.
Responding, Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his commitment to delivering on his administration’s promises to the people of the state.
