Governor Aliyu Submits N119b Supplementary Budget to State Assembly

The Sokoto State Executive Council has at its 7th meeting on Wednesday approved for submission to the state Assembly a supplementary budget of 119 billion Naira for the year 2024.

The State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Balarabe Musa Kadadi, disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the meeting at the council chamber of government house Sokoto.

He said the supplementary budget followed the inflow of funds into the state coppers from various sources during the period.

The Commissioner said the sources of the funds include NGCares, Excess Crude Oil, Ecological, Agile Projects, Palliatives, L – Press, and Flooding.

The council also approved N17.9 billion for the reconstruction of roads in the state.

Similarly, the state approved N11.8 billion for the construction of 40.7 kilometers of Illela-Gada road.

Another N3.2 billion was approved for the construction of the Wurno-Huchi road.

The state Commissioner of Information, Hon Sambo Bello Danchadi noted that the projects were part of the promises made by the Governor during his local government tours, adding that, the roads were of economic importance to the state.

He further revealed that the sum of N2.9 billion was approved for the construction of Romo Bridge.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Dr Jabir Sani Maihula, revealed that the sum of N156.7 million was approved for the rehabilitation of the oldest Islamiyya School in the state.

According to him, the School had trained prominent indigenes of the state, some of whom were now Professors and politicians.

“The sum of N33.4 million was also for the renovation of Isa Wasagu Juma’at Mosque in the state capital.

The Commissioner for Land and Housing, Barrister Nasiru Dantsoho said the council approved the amendment of Sokoto High Court Laws and Shariah Court of Appeal Law, approving 70 years as a retirement age for Judges and Khadis.

The council also approved N361.2 million for the renovation of the state Shari’ah Court of Appeal.

The session also approved the increased number of state high court judges to 41 while the Khadis of the State Sharia Court of Appeal were also increased to 31.
