Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, bringing the tenure of all Commissioners and Special Advisers to an end.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Onwuka Nzeshi, the Governor directed the affected officials to immediately hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.

“Sir Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.

“The Governor has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries with immediate effect.

“He further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement read.

The development comes 48 hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the prolonged political crisis in the state.

Wike disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently met with key political stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Fubara and his predecessor, in a renewed bid to ease tensions stemming from the power struggle in the oil-rich state.

The closed-door meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa, was attended by other prominent Rivers leaders as part of efforts to restore political stability.
