The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed a fire outbreak that destroyed parts of a residential building at Hotoro Ring Road, Eastern Bypass, opposite Arewa Surgery, in Nassarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 9:20 a.m.
“The Service received a distress call from one Halliru Ibrahim, who reported the emergency to the Central Control Room.
“Upon receiving the call, firefighters from the Central and Bompai Fire Stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
“On arrival, they discovered that a one-storey building, measuring about 75 by 100 feet and used as a dwelling house, was engulfed in flames.”
The statement further added that the structure, which contained two bedrooms, two parlours, three toilets, two kitchens, two stores, a staircase, a balcony, and a corridor, was severely affected, particularly the upper floor.
Firefighters successfully battled the blaze using three jets connected to water sources from the Central and Bompai stations.
Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, commended the swift response of his personnel and urged residents to exercise greater caution in handling electrical appliances and other potential fire hazards.
He advised members of the public to always switch off electrical devices when not in use to prevent fire outbreaks.
The cause of the fire, according to the statement, is still under investigation.
