National coordinator of the Federal CARES Support Unit of Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES), Dr. Abdul-Karim Obaje, has urged Oyo State government to leverage the intervention programmes of the body to improve the infrastructural development of communities in the state.

The chairman of OYCSDA, Hon. Tokunbo Adeaga, who stated this in Ibadan, commended the Oyo State government on its multi-prong approaches towards tackling poverty through its social protection programmes, parts of which included employment of youths, agricultural inputs support, small and medium scale business empowerment as well as intervention in healthcare, education, water, environmental and psychosocial areas in communities across the State through Oyo State Community and Social Development Agency (OYCSDA).

He called on the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde not to relent in giving succour to the downtrodden in the state.

Obaje enjoined the state to align its social protection programmes with the NG-CARES guidelines and improve on its contribution to the projects delivery platforms to earn more reimbursement from the World Bank.

“My advice to Oyo State is to put more resources to the NG-CARES, while aligning with the stated guidelines on its various social protection programmes, so as to benefit by earning more reimbursement from the World Bank.

“Oyo State has done so much to eradicate poverty and empower the people through the NG-CARES programmes handled by OYCSDA, it is reflected in the results we get from Abuja, but we need to do more through collaboration.”

In his response, Adeaga appreciated the Federal CARES Support Unit’s (FCSU) national coordinator, promising him to do all within his means to improve on the performance of OYCSDA with the support of the State Governor.
