The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on Thursday launched free delivery kits for all pregnant women who enroll in the health insurance scheme of the FCT.

FCTA also distributed free delivery kits to vulnerable pregnant women across the six area councils during the programme organised by the  FCT Health Insurance Scheme (FHIS) in collaboration with USAID.

The Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health and Environment Secretariat (FCT-HES), Dr Adedolapo Fasawe enjoined residents to enroll in the FCT health insurance scheme, saying it would offer them health care services at minimal costs.

She said the delivery kits would help curb maternal mortality in the FCT.

She said enrolment into the FHIS would enable pregnant women to access cesarean sections, and delivery, adding that the delivery packs contain gloves, drapes, and baby’s first clothes among others.

The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud said the FCTA is working to ensure each ward in the six area councils has a functional primary health care centre.

FCT State Director of the USAID Integrated Health Program (IHP), Dr Frances-Lois Adewumi said the IHP has been supporting the FCT in the last four years in the areas of health system strengthening and improving health outcomes for women and children among others.
