FCDO Lauds Jigawa’s Formula for Recruiting 6,000 Teachers

The United Kingdom Mission known as the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) has commended the formula adopted by the Jigawa state Government for recruiting 6,000 teachers in the state.

The Senior Responsible Officer, for Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) FCDO, a UK-funded project, Mr Ian Attifield made the commendation when he paid a courtesy visit to the state governor Malam Umar Namadi in his Office.

He said the one-day working visit he paid to Jigawa state aimed to assess the impacts of their intervention in the area of improving foundation skills and quality learning in the state.

Mr. Ian noted that the formula adopted by Jigawa state for teachers’ recruitment will help in recruiting qualified teachers and also those who have passion for the job.

“The policy we have seen on the ground in Jigawa state has demonstrated the state government’s commitment to improving access to quality learning and also addressing the challenges of the high rate of out-of-school children, we appreciate the effort and we are ready to strengthen our partnership for achieving the desire goals.

“Our intervention in PLANE also included supporting the civil societies, traditional and community leaders, and the public to support the educational development by playing the expected roles of all state and non-state actors.

In his remarks, the Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi narrated that, Jigawa state has been enjoying support from FCDO in different aspects which includes education, health, and good governance among others.

He noted that the PLANE project has provided so much insight and technical guidance on how best the state can improve access to quality education for all children in the state.

“We introduce a Formula for recruiting temporary teachers known as J-Teach, and after one year we will observe those that are qualified and also demonstrated passion for the Job to a permanent appointment, this will continue until we have enough qualified teachers in our classrooms.

“Education is one of the critical sectors in the 12-point agenda of my administration, we are ready to do everything, to improve the sector including partnering with any good partners as well as spending our last Kobo to reform the sector for growth and sustainable development,” the Governor declared.
