A 28-year-old man, Monisola Adebayo, has been arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly publishing false news online.

Adebayo, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, defamation and publication of false news.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Olagoke Adegbenro, “the defendant committed the offences in 2024 at the Eleyele area of Ibadan”.

Adegbenro alleged that Adebayo conspired with others to publish false news that defamed the character of Mrs Alice Oyinlola.

The prosecutor stated that “the defendant posted undue comments online, exposing Oyinlola to hatred, contempt, and ridicule”.

“The offences contravene sections 59, 375, and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000,” Adegbenro disclosed.

Magistrate Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned until April 21 for hearing.
