Support for Women and Teenage Children (SWATCH Project) said there is a need for all stakeholders to put hands on deck in mitigating the problems of gender-based violence in society.
The Programme Manager of the project, Mrs. Farida Azira Abdulmalik made the assertion during the closeout ceremony of the project in Kano on Sunday.
The project which is sponsored by European Union, targets orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), with aim of encouraging social inclusion so as not to leave anyone behind, and to pave way for them to achieve their life dreams.
The objectives behind this are to bring social transformation and mitigate the negative impact of poverty among women.
“Our targets include people positively living with HIV Aids, which the project makes so many interventions from our startups January this year.
“Our enrollment consists of all these groups, which more than 500 women benefitted immensely from the project”, Azira stated.
The project manager added that their activity covers health support, nutrition, enrollment of children back to school, and those victims of rape that need special counseling.
“Also, there are many widows that benefitted from soft grants of N30,000, so that they can start doing something to get a means of livelihood after receiving training on business skills.
“Apart from that, we also get support from philanthropists and other wealthy individuals on a community project where many boreholes were drilled”.
Speaking earlier, one of the beneficiaries of SWATCH, Usaina Musa Ali popularly known as ‘Yar Kanawa said the project helped in shaping her life positively through the soft grant, enrolling her children back in school among others.
“Now from my tailoring I can be able to raise something that is sufficient for me to feed my orphans, as well as take care of their education through the SWATCH support”, ‘Yar Kanawa said.
Many women from the project area attended the closeout ceremony, where certificates of recognition were given to some community volunteers who participated excellently well in the project.
SWATCH activity for 2022 covers Rijiyar Lemo, ‘Yan Mata Gabas, and ‘Yan Mata Yamma areas of Fagge Local Government Kano State.
