Ahead of Saturday’s Presidential election, Police bosses (DIG) Hafiz Muhammad-Nura in charge of the North West zone, and AIG  Edward Ebuka, in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, have urged personnel of the Nigerian Police to be neutral and ensure law and order is maintained during and after the election.

The Duo stated this while addressing Officers and Men of the Kebbi State Police Command at the command’s headquarters, Birnin Kebbi.

They charged the police personnel to strictly adhere to the laws, principles, and rules guiding their conduct before, during, and after the elections.

They said: “The Police are to be apolitical,  our duty is to ensure that the laws of this land are being followed strictly and adhered to with a view to ensuring that we create an enabling environment for a peaceful, transparent, and successful conduct of elections across the state.”

The Duo, therefore, warns police not to interfere with the electoral process but to maintain law and order while the citizens exercise their civic responsibility.

The DIG noted that anybody who tries to go against the laws of this country will be dealt with, including any uniformed officers.

“We are not to create any problem but to solve them and anybody trying to breach the electoral laws or the laws of the land; definitely he/she will face the wrath of the law.”

The DIG, therefore, advised politicians in the state to note that “politics is not a do-or-die affair” but an opportunity for all Nigerians to choose credible leaders of their choice without intimidation, harassment, or compulsion, he added.
