eHealth Africa Academy Graduates 6th Cohort, Equipping Youth For Tech, Health Innovation

eHealth Africa has celebrated the graduation of the 6th Cohort of its Academy, marking the successful completion of a 16-week intensive training program in web design and software development.

The academy, known for bridging the technology skills gap among Africa’s youth, continues its mission to foster future tech leaders, particularly within the health-tech sector.

The graduation ceremony, held on January 24, 2025, in Kano, brought together key stakeholders from the health-tech industry, government, and the broader tech community.

Participants were celebrated for their dedication and transformative learning journey. The event featured inspiring speeches, certificate presentations, and a reflection on the graduates’ achievements.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Kano, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim, the State Commissioner of Science, Technology, and Innovation, underscored the significance of initiatives like the eHealth Africa Academy in addressing Nigeria’s digital skills gap. He highlighted the critical role of technology in driving socio-economic development and emphasized the importance of equipping young people with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital and competitive global landscape.

Dr. Ibrahim commended eHealth Africa for its dedication to youth empowerment and skill development, noting that such programs are vital for preparing the next generation for global opportunities.

“This initiative provides a lifeline for young people eager to enter the competitive job market and contribute meaningfully to the digital economy,” he stated.

 He further expressed optimism that the graduates would become key contributors to technological innovation, ultimately driving positive change in Nigeria’s economy and beyond.

Jamil Galadanci, Senior Manager, Global Health Informatics at eHealth Africa said the graduation represents more than just the completion of a program, stressing that it signifies a transformative journey for our graduates.

“These young professionals have not only acquired valuable technical skills but are now equipped to contribute meaningfully to the digital and healthcare ecosystems both locally and globally.

“We are excited to see the impact our graduates will have on the world. They are now equipped to address complex challenges in health-tech and contribute to shaping a future where technology and healthcare work hand-in-hand to improve lives across the continent,” Galadanci added.

The program provided participants with mentorship from industry professionals, hands-on training, and real-world project experiences. Its immersive curriculum underscores eHealth Africa’s commitment to empowering youth with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Since its inception, the eHealth Africa Academy has trained and graduated over 120 young professionals. With a focus on fostering innovation and creating pathways for growth, the academy is playing a critical role in addressing Africa’s digital skills gap.

eHealth Africa’s work extends beyond training programs, as the organization continues to design and implement data-driven solutions to strengthen health systems across Africa. For over 15 years, eHealth Africa has fostered innovation through collaborative approaches, helping to accelerate public health advancements.

With the successful graduation of this latest cohort, eHealth Africa reaffirms its commitment to youth empowerment and innovation in the health-tech landscape, setting the stage for continued growth and impact in Africa’s digital economy.
