The Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Assistant Commander, ACE Aliyu Yunusa, urges civil society organizations and other stakeholders in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states to join hands with the commission in its war against economic and financial crimes at the grassroots.
The Zonal Commandant gave the charge on Thursday at a civil society engagement meeting held in Sokoto.
Yunusa said the involvement and engagement of civil society groups is one of the effective means of crime reporting and prevention.
The EFCC has been consistently harping on the need for public ownership of the anti-corruption war, as civil society groups, have the task of uncovering and reporting financial and other corrupt practices in the society.
“The anti-corruption crusade will be effective if more engagements are made at the grassroots level through interactions with all stakeholders at the grassroots, whereby useful facts would be gathered that will assist the commission in the arrest and prosecution of suspects to justice,” says Yunusa.
He said it’s the law that warrants the commission to enter into a plea bargain with suspects arrested for financial and other sundry crimes.
“No past Governor or minister has been immune against arrest and prosecution by the EFFC.
“As critical stakeholders in the fight against economic and financial crimes civil society groups also served as bridge between the commission and civil society.
The head of Enlightenment and Enformation Assistant Commandant, Aisha Mohammed stressed the need for the public to make more functional use of the Eagle Eye and platforms provided by the commission for reporting corruption cases.
“Feel free to say your minds and tell us where we go wrong, as the war on economic and financial crimes needs collective engagement, we need the support of individuals and groups as the war against corruption has since gathered momentum.”
