The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has suspended several of its operatives following allegations that they extorted ₦10 million from Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed that the agency had begun a comprehensive investigation into the incident, describing the allegations as “grave and unacceptable.”

According to Oladips, EFCC officials detained him for five days and released him only after collecting ₦10 million, despite finding no evidence linking him to any offence.

Oyewale stated that the EFCC was treating the allegations with the utmost seriousness. He added that all officers mentioned in the case had been withdrawn from field operations and summoned to the commission’s headquarters for interrogation.

“The commission wishes to state unreservedly that the grim picture painted by the artist does not represent the true image of the EFCC. Investigations have commenced, and the officers involved have been stood down pending the outcome,” he said.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment to integrity and accountability, Oyewale stressed that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action.

“The EFCC will not condone any form of misconduct within its ranks. If the allegations are proven true, the operatives will be sanctioned accordingly. However, if found to be false, the commission will take necessary steps against attempts to damage its reputation,” he added.

Oyewale appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, assuring the public that the EFCC remains resolute in its mission to combat corruption and financial crimes without bias or compromise.
