The government of Ebonyi has directed all security agencies, including Ebube Agu, to neutralize any miscreant found with a gun or dangerous weapons within the state.

The directive was in response to a pandemonium that broke out in Abakaliki following sounds of gunshots that rented the air on Monday morning which was said to be connected to the alleged enforcement of a “sit-at-home’’ order.

In a statement by the commissioner for information and state orientation, Uchenna Orji said the Ebonyi state government remains committed to ensuring the security of the lives and properties of residents.

According to the statement, residents should disregard the sit-at-home order.

Other parts of the statement read;

“We direct all security agencies and Ebubeagu Security Outfit to neutralize any miscreant found with a gun and or dangerous weapon in the state.

“This is because the government has noted the tension generated in the state on Monday over the purported ‘sit-at-home’ order by non-state actors and the apprehensions that followed the unfounded rumor.

“Members of the public are enjoined to disregard the rumor of the purported enforcement of the ‘sit-at-home’ order in the state.

“It is false and nothing but a figment of the imaginations of enemies of the state fanned by opposition forces to scare law-abiding citizens.

“It is noteworthy to mention that no house was burnt and no killing was recorded in Ebonyi or any part thereof.

“The governor has directed security agencies and Ebubeagu Security outfit to constantly patrol Abakaliki and the various local government areas.

“Members of the public are enjoined to go about their normal businesses without fear. All markets, business centers, and public places are to remain open.

“Suspicious movements should be promptly reported to the nearest police post or security checkpoint or call: 07013440807 or 07064515001.”

The government added that all the antics of the enemies of the state must be resisted by the people.
