Dr. Danmaraya Moves to Re-invent Kano’s Ministry of Finance

Kano State Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Ismail Aliyu Danmaraya has disclosed plans to organize periodic Organizational Capacity Assessments of his ministry for effective management, and identification of areas that need strengthening for better service delivery.

He opined that the strategy “will help the ministry to reflect on its processes and functions, and score itself against globally accepted benchmarks.”

During a meeting with management officers of the ministry in his office, the Commissioner stated that the move is part of strategies to ensure capacity improvement and enhanced work outcomes.

In the same vein, he promised to institutionalize “the practice of weekly management meeting to share updates, discuss plans, tackle challenges and forge synergy with all the Ministry’s departments.”

Dr. Danmaraya explained that a secretariat would be set up to collate minutes of the meeting which will be submitted monthly, to the state governor, pointing out that doing so will go a long way in strengthening the governance system.

“If we are to move forward, we must work together to tackle challenges and share successes”, he stated, assuring of his resolve to carry everybody along for optimum results.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sabi’u Muhammad, pledged the loyalty of the workers, promising to support the Commissioner to deliver.

He said although the ministry had some challenges, the issue of training and re-training was paramount, hoping the commissioner would focus attention on that area, to keep things working.
