Didier Deschamps, the manager of France, has downplayed the possibility of a falling out between himself and Kylian Mbappe, his captain.
Despite Mbappe being photographed in a Swedish nightclub on the same night as France’s match against Israel, Deschamps refuted any ill will between them. Despite being left out of the French team to heal from his injury, Mbappe made waves when he showed up at the nightclub. According to Deschamps, he was unaware that Mbappe was in Sweden.
Deschamps declared: “I don’t keep up with the news about players who aren’t here. Kylian is enrolled in a Real Madrid program, so I’m not sure if he was absent or not. Just like any other player for his team, he adheres to a schedule. When athletes take days off, they are free to do what they want.”
Mbappe suffered a thigh injury during Madrid’s 3-2 La Liga victory against Alaves, which kept him out of action. The attacker was left out of France’s team and was supposed to be sidelined for a few weeks, but he returned ahead of schedule to play against Villarreal. The claims of a rift arise from Mbappe prioritizing his pursuit of the Ballon d’Or, with him only wanting to play in ‘essential’ international matches.
Mbappe will keep relaxing throughout the World Cup break. He hopes to play in Real Madrid’s match against Celta Vigo on October 19, which precedes their Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund three days later.
