Desertification: FG Donates 2,970 Cocking Gas Cylinders to Rural Women in Jigawa

As part of an effort to tackle desertification and other related environmental degradation, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has donated 2,970 cocking Gas Cylinders to Jigawa state rural women.

Speaking at the flagging off for the distribution of the Cylinder held in Dutse capital, the Hon Commissioner Jigawa state ministry of women affairs Hajiya Ya’wa Da”u said, the beneficiaries were selected from all the 27 local government areas of the state.

He explained that the projects are carried out with the state and federal Ministry of Women Affairs and aimed at empowering rural women to use alternative energy that is cleaner and less harmful to human health than charcoal or firewood.

The commissioner explained that encouraging rural women to use cocking gas will help to discourage using firewood for tackling indiscriminate felling of trees which is one of the contributory factors for desertification and other related environmental degradation.

“In this project, we are targeting women as the vanguard for war against global warming, and also fighting respiratory diseases such as Asmheh, child Pneumonia, and other related diseases ” she declared

In her speech at the occasion the Permanent Secretary Ministry of women affairs Jigawa state, Hajiya  Hauwa Zakar Hadejia called on the beneficiaries to abide by the safety measures when using the cylinder.

She said the project has targeted 10 women from each political ward of the 27 local government areas of the state.

The PS added that the ministry will continue to come up with intervention, and empowerment in collaboration with the federal government and other partners for improving the social and economic life of women in the state.
