A non-governmental organization under the aegis of African Focus for Youth Development (AFFYD), on Friday conducted a 3-day training workshop on safety measure of the New Covid-19 Delta Variant for 40 youths across three senatorial districts of Kano state.
The Executive Director, AFFYD, Ambassador Emmanuel Gambari, said the training is to create awareness on safety measure of the Delta Variant twinned with the fact that the youth has always been marginalized when it comes to the issues bordering on health, empowerment and education.
Talking on the conspiracies surrounding the new variant of Covid 19 pandemic, he said the issue is worrisome, people still deny the existence of the pandemic.
“It is worrisome that if you go around to ask even within urban areas, people still don’t believe in the existence of Covid 19, they would said, the government is only trying to make money or I have never seen people with Covid 19 and stuffs like that.”
Gambari questioned proverbially those with such mindset.
“For the fact that it didn’t rain on your roof, doesn’t it mean it didn’t rain at all, won’t you just protect yourself,” he asked rhetorically?
He further said, the priority area of the workshop concentrated on encouraging participants on using social media for sensitization to counter such rumors and step-down the training in their communities and social hubs.
The training had speakers joining virtually from Asia and United States of America, empowering participants on how to track down information that are not true about the pandemic.
Participants were also taught how to make facemasks and hand sanitizers to safeguard themselves and people around them.
Speaking at the event, the Kano State Coordinator, National Human Commission, Shehu Abdullahi said during the lockdown there were lots of restrictions on his office to address several human rights violations, but they cases were later addressed immediately after easing the lockdown.
On her part, the Kano State Coordinator, Albinism Association, Hajiya Isiyaka Mariyam said her group did a lot of sensitization during at the peak of the first wave of the pandemic.
While thanking some individuals and organizations that helped the organization with palliatives to cushion the devastating effects of the scourge during the lockdown, she condemned all kinds of discriminations against people with albinism at various places of work with references to employment opportunities.
