Court Stops KANSIEC from Imposing Huge Fees on Contestants in Kano LGA Polls

Isiyaku Ahmed

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has restrained the Kano State Independence Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) from charging or imposing N10m and N5m from contestants into the offices of Chairman/Vice Chairman and Councilor in the forthcoming local government election.

The presiding judge, Justice Emeka Nwite granted the order on Wednesday.

The suit was instituted by the Action Peoples Party (APP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The only defendant in the matter is the Kano State Independence Electoral Commission.

The exparte order was granted upon reading an affidavit in support of the motion exparte sworn to by Adamu Dauda and after hearing the argument of Counsel to Plaintiffs, Hassan Tanko Kyaure.

The court adjourned the matter on September 25th, 2024 for hearing

It could be recalled that Kano State Independent Electoral Commission had imposed N10m for Chairmanship contestants while Councillors are expected to pay N5m in the council polls rescheduled for October 26, 2024.

KANSIEC had earlier scheduled the polls for November 30.
