CAF Appoints Nigerian Referee Akintoye For WAFCON 2024

The Confederation of African Football,CAF, has named Nigerian referee Yemisi Eunice Akintoye among 18 officials that will officiate at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Akintoye, who was bagged by the Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, in 2020 is a member of the Lagos State Football Referees Council.

The 30-year-old impressed at the preparatory course held in Cairo, Egypt last week.

The course involved extensive technical assessments, physical fitness tests, and decision-making evaluations under match-like conditions.

Akintoye has officiated in several high profile tournaments including the CAF Women’s Champions League, WAFU B U-20 Championship and WAFU B Women’s Champions League.

Morocco will host the WAFCON 2024 finals from Saturday ,5 July to Saturday, 26 July 2025.

The Banyana Banyana of South Africa are the defending champions of the competition.

Nine-time champions Super Falcons of Nigeria are in Group B with Tunisia, Botswana and Algeria.
