The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has commenced a preliminary inquiry following allegations circulating in public commentary and on social media linking a person reported to be a student of the institution to acts of online impersonation and financial misconduct.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, on behalf of the Registrar, the management said it took note of the allegations and was reviewing the matter in line with the institution’s established disciplinary procedures governing students’ conduct.

The university emphasised that it maintains strict standards of discipline, conduct, and character for all students throughout their academic stay, noting that any behaviour capable of bringing the institution’s name and reputation into disrepute is treated with utmost seriousness.

BUK, however, clarified that the personal actions of any individual student do not reflect the values or character of the university as an institution.

According to the statement, the appropriate university authorities have begun examining the allegations to ascertain the facts surrounding the matter.

The management also commended the public-spirited efforts of Professor Farooq Kperogi and other individuals who provide financial assistance to students in need, particularly through support for registration fees and other educational expenses.

The university noted that such acts of generosity play a vital role in expanding access to education and supporting deserving students.

BUK assured members of the public that if the allegations are substantiated after due investigation, appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the university’s regulations and relevant laws.

It further urged the public to allow the investigative process to run its course and to refrain from speculation or the circulation of unverified information.
