Brazil’s star player Rodrygo believes his team needs Neymar back “as soon as possible” because without the injured forward, they will not be able to win the World Cup.
Since October of last year, Neymar has been sidelined by an anterior cruciate ligament injury; his return date to the field is still unknown. It has been proposed that Al-Hilal hold him off their roster until January in order to utilize all other international stars during the 2024–25 season’s first half.
Without Neymar, Brazil has struggled in World Cup qualifying thus far, finishing eight points behind leaders Argentina in fourth place. Real Madrid player Rodrygo claims that the Selecao would be in greater form if the 32-year-old were in the side as he fears for their hopes at the 2026 tournament.
Rodrygo told ESPN, “I’m at a loss for words. It’s obvious to all that he has been missed. He is our top player and our star. For him to win a World Cup, everyone else needs to be healthy. We’re hopeful that he’s doing well and that he’s nearing the end of his recuperation. We are eager for him to return. He and I always message each other, and he’s back to exercising with the group now. He’s a fantastic mate. I feel sorry when I see someone talking negatively about him because of the guy he is. He supports me and always sends me messages. I cherish him. Not only is he my inspiration as a player, but he has also demonstrated himself to be a fantastic person.”
Midweek, Rodrygo and his fellow players from Brazil will take on Paraguay in World Cup qualification in an effort to get closer to Argentina.
