A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group in Borno State, operating under the umbrella of the PDP Stakeholders National Working Caretaker Committee (PDPNWCC), has called on the factional National Chairman of the party, Kabiru Turaki, as well as Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, to sheath their swords and embrace peace in the interest of party unity.

The group threw its weight behind the faction of the party led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike, whom it commended for providing what it described as clear direction and responsible leadership at a time the PDP is facing serious internal challenges.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Lake Chad Hotel in Maiduguri on Tuesday, the Chairman of the group, Dr. Grema Kyari, praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for stating on Wednesday, 4 December 2025, rejecting the outcome of the controversial Ibadan Convention that produced Barrister Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman.

Kyari said that despite two valid judgments of the Federal High Court, the former National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, allegedly obtained an interim injunction from the Oyo State High Court and proceeded to conduct what the group described as an illegitimate gathering instead of a lawful elective convention.

He noted that the exercise was carried out without the presence or supervision of INEC, as required by law.

In view of these developments, the group called on Barrister Kabiru Turaki, Governor Bala Mohammed, a former Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, and Governor Seyi Makinde to realign with what it described as the party’s national leadership under Chief Nyesom Wike, whose role in strengthening and repositioning the PDP, it said, is widely acknowledged.

The group also called on the former Borno State PDP Chairman, Zanna Gaddama, to immediately coordinate the handover of all party documents, properties, and records by former executives at ward, local government, and state levels to the newly constituted Borno State PDP Working Caretaker Committee.

Kyari said the handover should be completed within 48 hours to enable the commencement of fresh ward, local government, and state congresses in Borno State.

He further commended the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Caretaker Committee (PDPNWCC) for its decision to dissolve the Borno State PDP Executive Committee and approve the constitution of a new state caretaker committee, describing the move as bold, timely and lawful.

According to the group, the decision has restored hope among party members in Borno State and reflects the aspirations of PDP faithful who have long awaited justice and internal democracy, particularly following what it described as the flawed Borno State Congresses of September 2025.

Kyari warned that any attempt to resist the directive to hand over party assets and records would amount to impersonation and would be treated accordingly under the law.
