A senior journalist with the BBC Hausa Service, Bilkisu Babangida, has passed away after a prolonged illness.
According to a report by Kano Times, she died at 56 on Tuesday at a hospital in Abuja, a family source disclosed.
Bilkisu began her career with the BBC in 2006, initially reporting from Maiduguri, Borno State, before later transferring to the Abuja Bureau.
Before joining the BBC, she worked with the Kano State Radio Corporation and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). She also had a brief stint with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA).
She is survived by two children and six grandchildren.
Her funeral prayer is scheduled to take place at the National Mosque in Abuja at 2:30 PM today.
