The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau I. Jibrin, has flagged off the distribution of rice palliatives for the seven states in the Northwest.
Leading the federal government committee for the distribution, Jibrin commenced the distribution process in Kano State.
Jibrin emphasised that the initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the economic hardships faced by Nigerians.
He explained that the rice palliatives are intended to assist communities across Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara states.
He noted that the Federal Government Committee for Rice Distribution includes representatives from various political parties to ensure fairness, equity, and accountability.
“While the president’s efforts to provide palliatives are commendable, previous distributions faced issues with fairness, prompting a revised strategy. We are focused on equitable distribution and are incorporating grassroots committees into the process,” he said.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, announced that Kano State will receive 19 trucks of 25kg of rice for distribution.
He also revealed that Kano is expected to receive 70 trucks of subsidized federal government rice soon.
Kyari further noted that the federal government had previously provided Kano State with 90 trucks of food items and 70 trucks of fertiliser for distribution.
