Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has performed a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) training centre in Minna.
The centre, which is named after the farmer governor, is located at the three-arm zone area of Minna.
Governor Bago described the event as history-making and an invitation to development, pointing out that the training centre, when completed, would benefit both existing and potential accountants, as well as foster growth in the state.
He announced a seed donation of N150 million for the construction of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) training centre in the state.
The farmer governor also disclosed that 1,000 housing units will be constructed around the training centre to further develop the area.
The ICAN President, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, said the foundation laying for the project marks the beginning of planting a seed that will grow into a lasting legacy for the accounting profession, especially in the North Central Zone of the country.
He said the centre is a special student project for the North Central Zone of the country and that it will serve as a hub for training, research, professional examinations, and mentoring of future accountants, among others.
The ICAN President appreciated the farmer governor for his support to the institute, assuring him that his investments in the institute will yield positive results.
The Vice President of ICAN, Queensley Sofurati Seghosime who described the farmer governor as visionary, said the training centre will train students that are unable to get admission into tertiary institutions on the accounting technician scheme of the West Africa, adding that the certificate is accepted all over Africa.
The project engineer who gave the overview of the project explained that the training centre would be a one-story building with 3 components on 4,800 square metres of land.
He said the first component will have the administrative area, while the second component will include the academic session, and the third will be a CBT centre that will be rented out to generate revenue for the maintenance of the centre.
