Auyokawa Foundation Raises Over N21m to Support Healthcare Services, Education for Orphans, Vulnerable in Jigawa

Auyakawa Waqaf Foundation on Monday raised over 21 million Naira as a starter fund to support orphans and other vulnerable people’s education and healthcare in Auyo Local Government Area (LGA) of Jigawa state.

The Foundation was designed to administer and address service gaps in the provision of Basic health services in the LGA.

The event which was held at the council duplex in Auyo town was supported by LAFIYA, a Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Program targeting the 27 LGAs in the state. 

Its broad objective is to provide health alternative healthcare financing using the Zakat and Waqf model to provide basic services for the poor and vulnerable especially women and children.

Part of the initiative is to support the poor children to study in the available health institutions and come back and work at their various ward Primary health centers to address the lingering shortage of human resources in the LGA.

Chairman of the foundation, Dr. Umar Muhammad Nasarawa said they targeted 500 hundred vulnerable of which 320 are orphans and the remaining 180 are poor among the households in Auyo.

“We were set to raise 20 million Naira to support these 500 selected individuals in the area of health and education.

“However, the money realized from the people of Auyo, Kafin Hausa, Hadejia, and Kaugama was over 21 million Naira.

“We will use some portion of the Money for farming and business to create income for the sustenance of the foundation,” he added.

He thanked those who made contributions and the LAFIYA Program for facilitating the Auyokawa Waqaf Foundation.

Commissioning the foundation, the Senator representing Jigawa East Senatorial District, Amb. Ahmad Abdulkareem Malammadori who was represented by the Hon. Usman Ibrahim Kamfani representing Kafin Haus, Auyo, and Hadejia Federal Constituency donated 5 million Naira and another 5 million Naira for the Rep member.

He encouraged the people of the Hadejia emirate to do more in contributing their quota to the Waqaf for orphans to have a better life in society.

Amb. Malammadori then commended LAFIYA-FCDO for their humanitarian assistance across Nigeria. 

Chief Imam of Hadejia, Sheik Yusuf Abdulrahman Ya’u said Islam requires all Muslims to participate in Waqaf.

He encouraged people in the selected communities to do more Waqaf for their hear-after.

In his remarks, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Hadejia Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Maje, appreciated the humanitarian gesture.

The Emir urged the people of the emirate, especially Auyo to do more in supporting the Foundation.

He then urged members of the foundation to judiciously use the money for the purpose it was meant for.

LAFIYA FCDO supported the onboarding of 18 LGAs out of the 27 LGAs of the state on this initiative.
