Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. It is the combination of different amino acids that makes up the term protein. Our body produces some amino acids naturally while others are derived from our nutrition. 9amino acids are what we need from our diet on a daily basis.

Unlike fats and carbohydrates, your body does not store-up excess supplies of amino acids for later use, which is why it is essential to consume amino acid rich foods on a daily basis. Foods with amino acids include animal and plant base sources. Most of the animal sources such as meat, eggs and milk are considered to be “complete protein sources” meaning that these foods contain all the 9 essential amino acids that the body needs.

Vegetables are also good amino acid food sources (especially soy, nuts and beans) but most of them do not contain all of the 9 essential amino acids. This is why one must consume a varied diet, in proportionality and balance in moderation daily to guarantee maximum protein uptake especially when your diet does not include meat.

By applying a varied diet routine one can uptake more Amino acids. Consuming variety of foods is vital as some foods offer more Amino acids than others.  For example, rice contain methionine but it is not a good source of lysine and isoleucine while Fonio (Acha) does actually contain a whopping 72% of lsoleucine and 46% for lysine.

By constantly learning and applying knowledge with practical practice in culinary and dieting one is sure to make good progress on up taking adequate amino acids even with a strict plant base diet.

Without adequate consumption of protein, they may be a deficiency. Apparently, deficiencies of amino acids are quite common, especially for persons on a weight loss program and vegens because they may consume insufficient amounts of protein due to lack of proper knowledge and understanding of sourcing protein rich foods.

Thus, supplementation of amino acids is necessary. Amino acid supplements are very important as they counter the deficiencies and offer therapeutic benefits to your body. For your amino acid supplementation needs please consult a professional pharmacist who can differentiate between synthetic and food supplements.

This is important because synthetic supplements do not act the same in the body as food supplements. A good supplement offers total balance, along with vitamins, minerals and enzymes in foods all of which assures a healthy and disease-protected body.

Always remember that food is the best sources of all major nutrients including protein, so eat a varied diet every day and uptake vital nutrients!
