Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has strongly condemned the brutal killings in Tyungu Jam and Mbaav communities in Yaav and Mbadura council wards of Kwande Local Government Area, which left 12 people dead and several others injured.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, Governor Alia described the attack as “barbaric, senseless and unacceptable,” expressing deep sorrow and outrage over the loss of lives.

He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, stressing that every life matters and that the loss of even a single life is one too many.

Governor Alia assured residents of Kwande and the entire Benue State that his administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

He directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks in the area.

Governor Alia said he shares the concerns and anguish of the people of Kwande, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to guaranteeing the safety and security of all citizens.

He added that his government would not be deterred by resistance from individuals or groups opposed to peace.

The Governor also acknowledged the recent deployment of more than 400 security personnel to Jato Aka and other parts of Kwande, noting that the latest attacks indicate that more efforts are required to tackle the security challenges in the area.

He said he understands the pain and frustration of residents and shares their desire for lasting peace, promising that his administration would not rest until stability is fully restored.

Governor Alia appealed to the people of Kwande to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as they work to restore peace to the affected communities.

While noting that the security challenges are complex, Alia said they are not insurmountable and reaffirmed his determination to ensure that lasting peace returns to Kwande and Benue State as a whole.
