The Provost Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Professor Balarabe Jakada has called on the state government to expedite reviews of the college law to make it full pledge to award the National Certificate of Education (NCE).
According to him, the call has become necessary considering the college is not part of the institutions that benefit from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) financial and infrastructure intervention.
Prof. Jakada made the assertion during the event of the Second disbursement of Provost’s Education Assistance to 58 academic and none academic staff by the directorate of special assignment of the college.
He added that despite Ganduje’s administration’s commitment to the development of the state educational sector, there is still a need for the administration to review the law to help the college to accommodate the influx of NCE seekers and other disciplines offered by the college.
On the disbursement of the Provost’s education assistance, he said the effort is to support the staff of the college’s commitment to attaining required qualifications saying the assistance given to them includes those pursuing Ph.D. Master’s degree, and first degree, and congratulating them for being selected.
Also speaking at the event state Commissioner For Higher Education Dr. Mariya Bankure said the state government executed many infrastructure projects at all its tertiary institutions.
The Director of Special Services of the Ministry of higher education who represented the commissioner, Malam Naziru Yasayyadi said the commissioner doing anything possible to see the college law is reviewed, adding that soon the AKCILS will become a full pledge NCE awarding institution in line with Ganduje’s administration to improve educational development and continue developing infrastructure in the state higher education including staff welfare.
In another development, Prof. Jakada reiterated the importance of entrepreneurial education at the college during the showcase of products produced by the students.
“The aim is to empower learners to create employment opportunities by equipping them with specific skills for self-employment and independence after school.”
He noted that entrepreneurial education and training provide individuals with the ability to recognize commercial opportunities, self-esteem, knowledge, and skills to act on them.
According to him, since the college started offering entrepreneurship courses, it has made a positive impact on the student’s development with the opportunity of making them understand concepts, manage resources, and initiate business ventures.
