The students of the new site campus of Bayero University Kano (BUK) rejoice over the constant supply of water in their hostel from yesterday evening.

The development occurred after Stallion Times published a story on Friday around 5:38 pm on how students suffered before accessing water in their various hostels.

Humaira Akilu Yahya, a 400-level student, who called the attention of this reporter on the incident, expressed that around 7 pm there had been water supply and electricity in the new site campus.

She said: “I am very happy now as I can fetch water from my hostel of residence without trekking far away from the hostel premises.

“Up till now tap water has been running and all the students are now amazed about the development that occurred in just a short while.”

Yahaya added that “I took the courage to report this issue because most of the students are afraid of being expelled since a warning had been given by the school management that on no account no should there be a protest on the development.

“At least my activism towards this has helped many people, especially female students.

“I pray this development continues as water and electricity are basic social amenities that we students need on a daily basis.”

Lamara Garba, the Head of the Directorate of Public Affairs of the institution said the management of the school has been working tirelessly to improve students’ welfare, but sometimes, there are hitches here and there, adding that the latest development of the water scarcity was a result of power outage.
