Abia Suspends Expenditure on Projects Managed by PIUs

Abia Government has directed temporary suspension of expenditures on all projects managed by the various Project Implementation Units (PIUs) in the state.

The temporary suspension will be lifted after a review of the various projects.

A statement on Thursday by the Head of the Information Unit, Secretary to the Abia State Government’s (SSG) office, Uma Ibem said the SSG, Prof. Kenneth Kalu who gave the directive at a meeting he held with all State Coordinators of project implementation Units,  their various accountants and procurement Officers at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, revealed that the essence of the meeting was to take stock of their activities, identify their challenges so far, with a view to reviewing them and chart a new course for sustainable progress for a better Abia.

The SSG, Prof. Kalu directed all the project coordinators to submit to his office a detailed report of all their various activities on or before Monday 5th June 2023.

He further urged them to be transparent in rendering their service, assuring them that the present administration places a high premium on unity and sincerity of purpose, and advised them not to deliberately withhold any vital information that will assist in the rebuilding process of the State.

The SSG commended their commitment and encouraged them to see themselves as partners in championing the course of actualizing the set goals of the present administration ably led by His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti.
