The Osun State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has warned residents to avoid a town hall meeting set up by Mr. Ajala Adetunji, scheduled for 16 November.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Council’s Caretaker Chairman, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi.
According to the Chairman’s statement, the event is not authorized by the NYCN or the Osun State Government, urging the public to exercise caution.
He highlighted that only the Osun State Commissioner for Youth Affairs and the recognized NYCN leadership have the authority to organize such gatherings.
Oyeniyi expressed concerns about potential security risks, stressing that unofficial assemblies could pose dangers to participants and undermine the council’s integrity.
He also noted that Mr. Adetunji’s actions are a violation of NYCN’s regulations and state laws governing public gatherings.
The Council further advised Mr. Adetunji to cancel his plans, warning that continuing with the unauthorized event could lead to public disruption and legal consequences.
Comrade Oyeniyi reiterated NYCN’s commitment to the unity and safety of Osun youth, urging the public to support only legally endorsed initiatives.
“This gathering, which Mr. Adetunji has unilaterally proposed, is neither authorized by the NYCN nor recognized by the Osun State Government.
“Mr. Ajala Adetunji’s actions constitute a breach of the laws guiding the NYCN, describing his conduct as both an infringement on the Council’s regulations and a disregard for the state’s legal framework.
“Such unauthorized actions could lead to disruptions, create a risk to public safety, and have serious legal repercussions. The NYCN Osun State Chapter and the Commissioner for Youth Affairs are the only bodies vested with the mandate to represent and organize such forums for Osun youth.
“The NYCN Osun State Chapter strongly advises Mr.Ajala Adetunji to comply with the law and immediately withdraw his plans to proceed with this town hall meeting.
“We reiterate that our organization remains committed to promoting the values of unity, progress, and security for the youth of Osun State.
“To this end, we caution the public to remain vigilant and support only events that are officially sanctioned by the NYCN and the State Government. We urge all stakeholders to act responsibly, uphold the rule of law, and support legitimate youth empowerment initiatives,” he added.
