Kebbi State Government has approved the creation of a new district in Suru Local Government Area and upgraded Tarasa Village Head to a district in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

The approval was granted by Governor Nasir Idris and announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Garba Umar Dutsinmari.

According to the statement, Zarmakwai District has been created from Alijannare District in Suru Local Government Area, with Alhaji Aliyu Abubakar Sarki appointed as its pioneer District Head.

It added that Tarasa Village Head, carved out of Kola District in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area, has been elevated to a district, while Alhaji Faruku Abubakar has been appointed as the District Head.

The Commissioner said the decisions were made in line with Section 10, Subsections (A) and (B) of the Kebbi State Local Government Law, 2008, which empowers local governments to create districts and appoint district heads.

He urged the newly appointed traditional rulers to justify the confidence reposed in them by carrying out their duties with discipline, honesty, transparency, and dedication.

Dutsinmari noted that their appointments were based on their proven records of service and assured them of the continued support of Governor Idris and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in the discharge of their responsibilities.
