US President Donald Trump on Monday indicated that he sees a possible opportunity for progress in efforts to end the war in Ukraine, following separate conversations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian, France, Trump told reporters that he had held “two very good conversations” with the leaders on Sunday.

“We had a very good conversation yesterday with President Zelenskyy and President Putin, and I see maybe we can do something there,” Trump said, adding that he believes both leaders are open to negotiations.

Trump declared that the Iran war is “finished,” suggesting that Washington can now direct its full diplomatic attention toward resolving the Ukraine conflict.

“So, you know, now that this (Iran war) is finished, we’re going to be focusing on that (ending the Ukraine war) … see if we can get that one done,” Trump told reporters alongside Macron.

The remarks came as G7 leaders gathered in France to address global security challenges and economic coordination amid shifting geopolitical priorities.
