Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender inclusion across the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described women as the backbone of society, noting that their contributions to family life, community development, governance, and economic growth remain invaluable.
Governor Yusuf noted that the theme of this year’s celebration underscores the need to accelerate efforts toward achieving equal opportunities and ensuring that women are provided the platform to thrive in all sectors.
He stated that his administration remains committed to implementing policies and programs that promote women’s education, economic empowerment, access to healthcare, and active participation in governance.
The governor added that the Kano State Government has continued to support initiatives aimed at uplifting women, particularly in entrepreneurship, vocational training, and skills acquisition, to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
He commended women across Kano State for their resilience, dedication, and critical roles in building strong families and communities.
Governor Yusuf also called on stakeholders, development partners, and community leaders to support policies that protect women’s rights and expand opportunities for them.
He reaffirmed that his administration would continue to prioritise programmes that promote gender equity and ensure that women and girls in Kano State reach their full potential.
