The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a graphic circulating on social media claiming that March 26 has been fixed as the deadline for government officials seeking elective office to resign.
In a statement posted on Friday via its verified X handle, the electoral body clarified that the information did not originate from the commission and described the graphic as misleading and unverified.
INEC urged the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message entirely.
The Commission stressed that all official announcements are communicated only through its verified platforms, including its official website, social media accounts, and authorised press statements.
It advised citizens to always confirm election-related information through these channels and refrain from sharing unverified content that could mislead the public or create unnecessary confusion.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to providing accurate, timely, and transparent information to Nigerians.
