Kano State Government has officially revoked the contract for the Doguwa 5-kilometre road project following prolonged delays and the contractor’s failure to meet agreed contractual obligations.

A statement  issued on Friday by Sagiru Ado Abubakar, Information Officer, Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME), said the decision was announced during an inspection tour conducted by engineers from Ministry, led by the Commissioner, Comrade Nura Ma’aji Sumaila.

The Commissioner expressed dissatisfaction with the pace, quality, and overall progress of work at the project site.

Speaking during the visit, Sumaila revealed that the ministry had issued several warnings to the contractor, urging the firm to speed up work and comply strictly with the approved project timeline.

Despite repeated directives and follow-up inspections, the contractor reportedly failed to show significant improvement, prompting the government to terminate the contract in the interest of accountability, transparency, and value for money.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring that all public infrastructure projects are executed in accordance with approved specifications, timelines, and contractual standards.

He stressed that the state government remains determined to safeguard public funds and will take necessary steps to ensure the timely completion of the road project for the benefit of residents of Doguwa and neighbouring communities.

During the inspection tour, the Commissioner also assessed six additional projects across Tudun Wada and Doguwa Local Government Areas.

These included the renovation of Tudun Wada Hospital, construction of Neighbourhood Security Watch Division offices, dual carriage 5-kilometre road projects, as well as the first and second phases of the Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of Classrooms in the affected local government areas.

The state government is expected to announce further steps regarding the re-award and continuation of the Doguwa road project in due course.
