Kogi cashew has earned global recognition as the most nutritious and flavorful cashew in the world, following a landmark partnership between Nigeria and Vietnam to enhance cashew production, processing, and technology exchange.

The National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) and the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) formalized the partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the 14th VINACAS Golden Cashew Rendezvous 2025, held in Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 26 to 28.

The three-day global event, commemorating VINACAS’ 35th anniversary, brought together major players in the international cashew value chain. Nigeria’s Kogi cashew, however, took center stage for its exceptional quality, unique taste, and rich nutritional content.

Speaking at the signing, Dr. Ojo Joseph Ajanaku, National President of NCAN, described the recognition as a testament to Nigeria’s growing influence in the global cashew industry.

“Kogi cashew has been confirmed as the most nutritious and flavorful in the world,” Ajanaku said. “It is the pride of Nigeria, our agricultural gold.

This partnership will allow us to fully harness that advantage through research, innovation, and technology.”

He explained that the MoU would pave the way for advanced technology transfer, modern processing techniques, and product diversification, including the production of cashew-based beverages and other by-products.

“We’re collaborating with Vietnam to begin juicing Kogi cashew,” Ajanaku revealed. “With their machinery and technical expertise, we can scale up processing, create jobs, and significantly boost exports.”

The agreement, signed by VINACAS President Mr. Pham Van Cong and Dr. Ajanaku, aims to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, and sustainable agricultural practices between both nations.

Pham noted that Vietnam, with over 500 member companies, would share its decades-long industrial experience to help Nigeria build capacity and improve value addition.

“Vietnam is proud to partner with Nigeria, a rising cashew powerhouse,” Pham stated. “Together, we will shape the future of the global cashew trade.”

Ajanaku disclosed that Nigeria exported $20 million worth of cashews to Vietnam in 2025, projecting that improved processing and market access could raise annual earnings to over $500 million.

He added that the collaboration aligns with Nigeria’s broader drive to diversify its economy through agriculture and value-added exports.

A joint implementation committee will be established to monitor progress and ensure the full realization of the MoU’s objectives.

Kogi State, renowned for its vast cashew plantations, continues to lead Nigeria’s agricultural advancement.

With this new recognition, experts predict the state is poised to become a global hub for premium cashew production and processing.

“Cashew is Nigeria’s next success story, and Kogi is leading the way,” Ajanaku declared.
