The Federal Government has handed over 100 energy-efficient two-bedroom homes with urban farming spaces to widows in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, under the Family Homes Funds Limited Social Housing Programme.

In a statement posted by The Presidency on X on Wednesday titled “Delivering Renewed Hope, One Home at a Time,” the Presidency said the project reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive development and empowerment of vulnerable citizens through sustainable housing.

“These homes represent far more than physical structures. They symbolise renewed hope and restored dignity, particularly for the 100 resilient women empowered through this initiative,” said Demola Adebise, Chairman of the Family Homes Funds Limited.

He added that the development showcases “a new model of social housing delivery in Nigeria—one that integrates home ownership with skills training, livelihood support, and climate-smart construction.”

A notable aspect of the project is its origin story — the widows had pooled their land and approached the Federal Government through FHFL to construct affordable homes for them, a collaboration now rewarded with shelter, livelihood support, and a model for inclusive development.

Each home was built using Expanded Polystyrene System technology, reducing construction costs and carbon emissions by up to 40 per cent. The houses are equipped with solar power systems, and beneficiaries also received livelihood training and cottage yards for food production and processing to promote food and income security.

Managing Director of FHFL, Abdulmuttalib Mukhtar, said the project demonstrates how inclusive collaboration can deliver measurable impact.
