Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to commence immediate rehabilitation of damaged roads within Uyo metropolis following the emergence of potholes and failed portions caused by prolonged rainfall in recent weeks.

Governor Umo Eno has directed the Ministry of Works to carry out a comprehensive assessment of affected roads across the state capital to enable prompt intervention.

This is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and ensuring smooth mobility for residents.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the government assured the public that road repairs will begin as soon as weather conditions permit.

“As the rains subside, rehabilitation work will begin in earnest to ensure proper and durable reconstruction of the affected portions,” Umanah stated.

He added that desilting of drainages and clearing of blocked water channels would also commence in different parts of Uyo to tackle flooding and prevent further deterioration of road infrastructure.

The Commissioner reiterated that the initiative aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure maintenance and sustainability.

He noted that alongside the construction of over 964 kilometres of new and inherited roads and bridges across the state, routine maintenance remains a key focus.

Umanah appealed to residents and motorists to remain patient and cooperate with government officials as the Ministry of Works mobilizes for the intervention.

“The government is finalizing arrangements to respond promptly and responsibly to infrastructure needs across the state,” he assured.
