Kano State Government has inaugurated an 18-member committee under the Kano State Out-of-School Children Education Initiative to address the growing challenge of children and youth excluded from formal schooling.
Speaking during the inauguration on Monday, the State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, stated that the initiative aims to increase access to education, re-enroll dropouts, expand learning opportunities, and enhance the overall quality of education in the state.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the committee is also mandated to develop foundational and life skills, create employment pathways for children, and address root causes of school exclusion, including poverty and child labour.
“The committee will also map out strategies to tackle security concerns and strengthen community engagement in support of education,” the statement added.
The committee, chaired by Haladu Muhammad, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Education Reform, comprises representatives from government agencies, traditional institutions, academia, development partners, and civil society organizations.
Dr. Makoda urged members to work diligently towards achieving the state’s education reform goals. In his response, the Chairman, represented by the State Lead of PLANE FCDO, Umar Lawan, assured the Commissioner of their commitment to deliver on the mandate and justify the confidence reposed in them.
