The House of Representatives is set to receive a request for the creation of Kurya Madaro Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
If successful, it would be carved out of the present Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
With a proposed headquarters at Kasuwar Daji, a memorandum detailing the imperative of creating the proposed council has been submitted to the member representing Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji Federal Constituency, Zamfara, Hon. Aminu Jaji, for transmission to the House Committee on Constitutional Amendment.
Jaji, while briefing newsmen on Friday, expressed hope that the request for the creation of the local government, which is long overdue, would be approved by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration.
The lawmaker, who also doubles as the Chairman of the House Committee on Ecological Fund, noted that with six wards and a population of over 400,000, coupled with the support of the people in the area, the request for the new local government would scale through legislative scrutiny.
Recalling unsuccessful attempts made to ensure the creation of the local government council over the last 46 years, Mr Jaji said, “The people of the area will enjoy sustainable development and security with the granting of financial and administrative autonomy to local government councils in the country.”
Abdullahi Majidadi, who led critical stakeholders and community leaders from the proposed Local Government Area, explained that the request for the creation of Kurya Madaro Local Government Area out of the present Kaura Namoda Local Government Area is in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people in the area.
He stated that the proposed Local Government comprises six wards—Kurya Madaro, Sakajiki, Banga, Kyambarawa, Kagara, and Dan Isah—all in Kaura Namoda LGA.
Justifying the need for the creation of the new local government, he noted, “It is deemed appropriate to demand the creation of Kurya Madaro Local Government Area, as Kaura Namoda Local Government Area is currently among the most populated and largest Local Government Areas in Zamfara State by landmass.
“The people of the proposed Local Government Area co-exist peacefully and harmoniously, sharing the same traditions and cultural values.
“As earlier stated, prior to the creation of Zamfara State and indeed after, several requests were submitted demanding the creation of Kurya Madaro Local Government, but unfortunately these requests did not receive favourable consideration. It is believed that the present administration may honour our request because of its importance and commitment to even development.”
