26-Year-Old Rukkayat Shittu Wins Kwara Assembly Seat

The 26-year-old Rukayat Shittu has been named the winner of a Kwara State House of Assembly seat.

Shittu who contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC) will represent the state’s Asa Local Government Area’s Owode/Onire Constituency.

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) returning officer, Prof. Ijaya Hakeem announced that Hon. Shittu polled 7,521 votes to beat her Peoples Democratic Party rival, who polled 6,957 votes in the Saturday House of Assembly election.

The newly elected state legislator was the National Open University of Nigeria’s (NOUN) Congress of Students’ first female Senate President.
