The escalating insecurity across Nigeria has again been highlighted by the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.
Armed attackers reportedly invaded the school around 4 a.m. on 17 November 2025, killing the Vice Principal and injuring a security guard before whisking the students away.
The incident has drawn comparisons to previous mass kidnappings, including the 2014 Chibok abduction, which shocked the nation and the world.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, CEFSAN’s Executive Director, Yusha’u Sani Yankuzo, Esq. condemned the latest attack, describing it as “heinous” and calling for the immediate and safe rescue of the victims.
“It is unacceptable that young girls, whose only aspiration is to pursue education, continue to fall victim to criminal attacks,” the group said.
CEFSAN noted that repeated assaults on schools deepen public fear, weaken confidence in the country’s security system, and place the future of Nigerian children at severe risk.
The rights group urged the Federal Government to “shift its focus from politics” and confront the worsening state of insecurity nationwide.
It stressed that the safety of citizens is a constitutional responsibility, citing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution, which prioritizes the protection and welfare of the people.
“The continued recurrence of mass abductions, banditry, and violent attacks demonstrates the urgent need for a comprehensive and proactive security strategy, backed by strong political will and swift action,” CEFSAN stated.
The group also called on security agencies to intensify coordinated operations, improve intelligence gathering, and ensure that those behind such acts are promptly brought to justice.
It further urged support for communities, traditional institutions, and local authorities in strengthening early-warning mechanisms and community-based security initiatives.
CEFSAN extended its sympathy to the families of the abducted girls and the entire Kebbi State community, affirming that no child should have to learn in fear.
